Teaching Artists Organized (TAO)

Training, Workshops, Networks

As Teaching Artists, we have both the freedom and the responsibility to set professional standards and goals for ourselves individually and eventually for the field as a whole.  TAO collects information about workshops on a continuum, from a one-time 2 hour workshop to a long-termcourse of study leading to certificates of completion and even academic degrees relevant to the field.  (Pictured, right, TAO member and Berkeley Rep teaching artist Dave Maier participating in Teaching Artist Institute 2010 with peers in a workshop on cultural responsive classrooms.)

TAO Workshops are programs offered in the Teaching Artist Institute series by TAO members and partners, with registration handled on this website and steep discounts for all TAO members.

Integration Learning Specialist Program (ILSP) is a 30 unit course of study coordinated by the Alameda County Office of Education Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership, and includes a requirement for electives for completion.  More about electives is available, and a calendar listing of all Pre-Qualified Electives is available here.  Anyone can take the pre-qualified electives, with or without credit.  Anyone can also receive Mills College continuing education credit for these qualified courses, with paperwork and a fee.  Check it out to learn more.

Other Professional Development are programs offered by TAO member organizations and partners that can help you meet your own professional learning goals.  Qualified Electives are also listed in this section and marked with a **.
